About

I believe in creating a world beyond poverty by building the intersection of finance, development and journalism. I am constantly on the hunt for new innovative platforms as an intersection point for business models and markets to contribute to progress (social or economic) in developing countries. For the past four years, I have worked primarily in finance and business development positions both in Canada and Africa (South Africa, Lesotho, Cameroon) and have developed different frameworks to help expand the social impact of organizations.

Currently, I am a portfolio analyst at a global asset management firm with a focus on emerging markets and risk management. I am a graduate of the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia and received the International Leader of Tomorrow Award, a full scholarship that supports international students for exceptional academic, leadership and extra-curricular activities. I am also a cause focused writer for websites and journalistic blogs including SocialEarth.org, SocialFinance.ca and Ywib.ca (Young women in Business).

My current research interests include:

1) Base of Pyramid Perspective: Understanding the unique dimensions of this section to fully evaluate the impact of market ventures

2) Social Entrepreneurship & Impact Investing: Investigating a collaborative approach in innovation, creation and implementation of impact investing and patient capital strategies.

3) New Media Journalism: Exploring the potential of story-telling, solution journalism as well as citizen journalism.

Close second interests include music, hiking, rock-climbing and dogs. I am an impatient optimist and believe that through compassion, innovation and education, we can be the change in the world.

Jocelynling.com is about being a work in progress/thoughts-in-the-making of discovering purpose and most importantly, sharing my PASSION. Writing on people and inspiration. Developmental work and Projects of the Past, Present and Future. Oh, and the inevitable random snippets of news that catches my eye from time to time.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you follow/subscribe/comment/share your thoughts and perhaps this might turn into something more.
